In My Mothers Box

Sewed tail feathers all day yesterday, so today I took a break and sewed my little hexagon quilt together. I would never have bought any of these fabrics myself- they are much more mom's speed. She likes really bright, colorful quilts.  These were all in the little monthly packets of 5" squares my favorite quilt shop gave away last year.

Now all I have to do is figure out what to quilt on it!

Flights of fancy

Spring has come to the south!

I watched the bluebirds chase each other around today- I guess it must be mating season.  Looks like there may be baby bluebirds in my future!

A little extra project...

So as if I didn't have enough of my own projects, last year my favorite little quilt shop decided to give out a bag of nickel scraps every month for a contest in February.  Yesterday I realized the deadline is coming right up and interrupted my Blue Streak quilt to sew some of the nickels together. I used Marti Mitchell's hexagon template and spent some time chaining them together this morning-

The sad part is, you had to spend a certain dollar amount to get your baggie every month. So what does it say that I had eight of the little beggars?

Probably that I am spending way too much time and money at my favorite quilt shop!

Scrap the Resolutions!

Haven't been out here in a while- spent most of the last year getting experimented on by doctors and finally had my gall bladder out in November. So in retrospect, not a lot of quilting or artwork got done last year.  Bummer! But the plan was to be healthy and get a lot more done in 2014.

I managed to bust that resolution as soon as the year started- I spent the first 30 hours of the new year with ripping pains in my gut and thinking I was going to have to crawl off to the emergency room.  Apparently one glass of champagne is beyond me now... Or maybe I managed to eat something that completely disagreed with me.  Managed to live through it though and am now working on the second part of getting a lot more done this year.

So here is the latest quilt, pulled out of the UFO list-

This started out as the Blue Streak quilt from Fons & Porter's December 2006 magazine. (Yes, I am a little behind on my UFO list!) As usual, I have changed things a bit and have moved the blocks around in a circular pattern.

Maybe I can get this done by the time mom finishes quilting the current one!
